Lockdown Inspiration Blog Post #1

When the first lockdown was introduced in England in March 2020, fear and uncertainty dominated my thoughts.

Were we all going to get through this physically and mentally?

Were we going to lose our job and business?

As the days passed, and the fruitless shopping trips for basic necessities gave way to more calmer, reassuring visits to the supermarket, and my husband was thankfully still in work, albeit on shorter days, it became clear my then Jewellery Business Dragon Eye Jewellery was just not viable anymore.

Sales were non existent and to be honest I just wasn't feeling the passion for it.

So it was closed down.

In the days ahead we were treated to many beautiful, warm and sunny days, unusually for Spring in the UK.

My daily walk in the local park was a much anticipated joy. It opened my eyes so much more to the beauty and colours of nature.

The blossoming trees, spring flowers, melodies up high from the birds, the bright gold of Daffodils and the delicate lavender of Bluebells were so uplifting.

And then I knew, I had to create jewellery full of colour and inspired by my beautiful, bright surroundings I set to work on bracelets and earrings with the colours of flowers in mind.

I had always had a soft spot for Boho fashion, indeed in my teens I proudly wore my flower power smocks with long beaded necklaces and wore my long curls down.

Colour was key in my designs, reflecting the beauty nature was displaying.

Finally my mojo had returned, the need to create was intense. More designs followed, and just haven't stopped since.

Now for a business name.

Boho Jewellery, Bohemian Jewellery, Independent Spirit all came to mind.

The name needed to reflect who these designs were for, free spirited souls and to represent the unique individuals that we all are.

And so it was how Indie Spirit Jewellery was born.

Lockdown had given me inspiration to take a new path and follow my passion for creating Boho jewellery. Yes at times it was hard starting a business from scratch and in unprecedented times. it is an ongoing journey where highs and lows are all to be expected.

However the designing and creating process is so good for my soul, and helps get me through these difficult times.
